2011
Yet another glorious year for us to enjoy on the March riviera ! And things are happening already . Simon Stoodley and Katie Denham are working their way through the alphabet challenge . They have to visit airfields with names for each letter of the alphabet . Tim Newton has taken delivery of his skyranger kit , had his first inspection and started the build . Pete Watson is making the most of his new found freedom by building a boat or two when he's not flying . Pat Oakey is well advanced in his building of a steam engine (pause for breath !). Paul Ayres is hectic with his erections when not driving his classic Mercedes , and Phil Bendall now has hangarage at the airfield . Will he park a flexwing here or his Dragonfly ?? Watch this space !
Mike Mcloughlin has resurrected and been flying his Rans S5 . This aircraft was tucked away in the corner of our hangar for years . After lots of tlc she looks superb (if not a little bright !) and is reported to fly well . Mike hopes to be able to begin FRTOL courses at Chatteris this spring/summer.
Wayne Kimberlin is now established with us and is looking forwards to lots of powered parachute training . These machines require more clement weather conditions so he is hoping for a cracking summer along with the rest of us .
Lets enjoy the summer with the normal barbeques and joviality . So long as we maintain our superb safety record ,which as always means leading by example .
Happy flying !

What an unusual, unforgettable week-end! Dan, a 16 year old young man celebrating his first solo and Eric, a well respected entrepreneur at the young age of 84 achieving yet another one of his goals in passing his GST. We would like to congratulate both of them. To you Dan great success with the rest of your training, and to you Eric many, many safe, happy years of flying |

The Dornier Do27 was the first aircraft to enter production in Germany after World War II. Claudius Dornier recommended activities in Spain in 1949, his Oficinas Tecnicas Dornier working closely with the Spanish CASA.
The initial fruits of this collaboration were evident with the first flight of the Do25 in June 1954. Prepared to meet a Spanish air ministry specification, the STOL transport aircraft was powered by a 150hp ENMA Tigre engine.
Developed from this, the prototype Do27 was flown on 8April 1955. Production took place in Germany, the first example flying in October 1956.
The production began, now equipped with a Lycoming GO-480 engine, mainly the military version Do27 A and dual control Do 27 B but the Do was although used for passenger transport.
The strutless high wing concept proved ease of access to the cabin. Full wingspan slats and large flaps give an amazing STOL capability. More than 600 were build before production ended during 1965. By far the largest user was the Federal German Republic, another early customer was the Swiss Flugwaffe, whose aircraft had wheel/sky landing gear. Other were supplied to Belgian and Israeli airforces.
G-BMFG has been fully restored and has all its paperwork.
Mike Mc Laughlin and Chris Thompson are in the process of completing its flight trials.
Keep an eye out, you may see this aircraft on the display circuit.
